Today 27th Feb, 2012 is 100th Birth Anniversary of Kusumagraj(Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar).
This poem is taken from his finest collection of lyrics "Vishakha" which was published in 1942 and still today considered one of the masterpieces of Indian Literature. I got opportunity to present the same poem
to Poet Kusumagraj in 1989 and he gave me another beautiful poem in his handwritting as a gift .

These are the lines from famous poem of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar was a fearless freedom fighter, social reformer, writer, dramatist, poet, historian, political leader and philosopher. These lines are from a famous poem written by poet Kusumagraj and sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
It is based on the historical incidence in 1674.
Prataprao gujar, was the Senapati of Shivaji's army. A few months before Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation in 1674, Prataprao Gujar was sent to deal with the invading force led by the Adilshahi general, Bahalol Khan. The Maratha army surrounded the camp of Bahalol Khan at the place of Naesari. Prataprao's forces defeated and captured the opposing general in the battle. In spite of specific warnings against doing so by Shivaji, Prataprao released Bahalol Khan along troops and the seized war material, when Bahalol Khan promised not to invade Shivaji's territories again. Days after his release Bahalol Khan started preparing for a fresh invasion.
When Shivaji Maharaj heard of about Prataprao decision, he was incensed and wrote an angry letter to Prataprao refusing him permission to see him till such time, Bahlol Khan was re-captured.Prataprao Gujar was very unhappy. One day he learnt of Bahlol Khan camping nearby. So, in a fit of anger and over-reacting to the letter, he left alone, without asking his cavalry to charge. . On seeing their leader head to certain death, 6 other Maratha sardars(Visaji Ballal, Dipoji Rautrao Vithal, Pilaji Atre, Krishnaji Bhaskar, Siddi Hilal and Vithoji Shinde ) joined him in the charge, they attacked 15000 troop enemy camp and were slaughtered. This is another attempt to capture Oxymon of the famous song ' Man Manas Umagat Nahi' .
Recently a State transport bus driver in my city who caused deaths of eight persons and injured at least 28 others by his maniacal driving on city roads .A regular driver with took out an empty parked bus from a depot early morning of and drove it crazily down the city roads for nearly an hour, what could be going through his mind at that time? Is it not a Devil's mind that time when earlier day he himself drove the bus from one of the pilgrim place and came to city. The oxymon line.. Mind is Devil's Hand and Mind is God's Foot .. The way he drove the bus through the main city and killed one after the other... I tried to capture on paper

This is very Old Classic Song written by Yogeshwar Abhyankar and sung by Sumati Tikekar.
Actually this song was heard in childhood in early 70 s on All India Radio Station, but then somewhere in the mind only few words like ' Dhuke Jase Pasarave 'were remained . My school batchmate
Mrs Smita Karkhanis helped me a lot for the entire lyric of the song.
