आज २८ मे . स्वातंत्रवीर सावरकर ह्यांची जयंती. स्वा. सावरकरांची ही कविता ह्या कवितेबद्दलाचा थोडाफार इतिहास :-..दि ८ जुलै १९१० रोजी सावरकरांनी मार्सेलिस बंदरानजिक समुद्रात ऐतिहासिक उडी मारून इंग्रजापासून सुटण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. पण दुर्दैवाने ते पकडले गेले. पकडून पुन्हा बोटीवर आणल्यावर बेड्या घालण्यात आल्या . त्यांचे स्वातंत्र्य आणि शांतता दोन्ही हिरावून घेण्यात आले. आता बोटीवर आपला अनन्वित छ ळं होणार ह्यांची जाणीव सावरकरांना झाली . त्या समयी स्वतःचे धैर्य वाढवण्यासाठी लिहिलेली ही कविता..

On 08 July 1910, Savarkar made his historic leap into the ocean when the ship was docked off the port of Marseilles.He was arrested and brought back to the ship.He was now handcuffed and largely confined to his cabin.He was restrained by two guards even when he was brought out for a short while to breathe fresh air. His cabin was kept well lit throughout the night.Light would be continuously shone on his face.This robbed him of any peace and privacy. .In this despondent situation, Savarkar composed this poem
